MLB The Show ’22, Sony San Diego Studio.

Here are this week’s two waiver-wire recommendations, with player ratings and traits provided by Sony’s flagship baseball game, MLB The Show.

Many of the top fantasy baseball sites are recommending late season sleepers. Those sleepers are almost always rookie call-ups. Top prospect Corbin Carroll was just picked up my Yahoo! league, and he’s not even in the Show yet. The same sites tag Lars Nootbaar as a must add after just a few weeks in the Big Leagues. The point is, we get excited for youth and look for breakouts, and we take for granted grizzled veterans that can win you the league.

Which players have been battle-tested, and which players demonstrate rock solid composure? Those are the players I am looking for late in the season. Two players at the top of my watch list are Manuel Margot and Evan Longoria.

Manuel Margot, TB Rays, 17% Rostered

MLB The Show Rating: 74 Overall

I clearly like what the TB Rays are doing. I recommend Yandy Díaz a few weeks back and now, Manny Margot. Margot is a former top prospect with speed, contact skills, and a whippy, level swing. He hits line drives all over the field, taking what is given to him. He will not light up the stat sheet with power, but he does a bit of everything else. More than anything, Margot is now a reliable hitter atop a TB Rays lineup that is healthy and producing. Level swing. Opposite field pop. And speed. 17 percent owned in Yahoo leagues. Now is your time to move.

Margot does a bit of everything and can help you down the stretch. Screenshot data created by Baseball Savant.

Evan Longoria, SF Giants, 6% Rostered

MLB The Show Rating: 88 Overall

Evan Longoria, veteran 3B, MLB The Show 22 by Sony San Diego Studio.

Longoria is a professional, period. The grizzled 3B has played on the biggest stage with Rays and is crushing out in San Francisco which is a predominantly pitcher’s ballpark. He possesses pure power, strong all-around plate skills, and the Giants will play him on a steady cadence to give him his rest.

Longoria is a prototypical late-season bench bat to provide your squads power as the weather cools, power slows, and the true power hitters rise to the top in the homerun category. At 6 percent owned, stream Longo at your convenience.

Pure pull-hitting power for Longoria, SF Giants. Data powered by Baseball Savant.
