Orlando, FL — Year over year, the development team at EA Sports in Orlando, Fl. release significant title updates to Madden NFL at the beginning of the NFL season. Accordingly, EA Sports released its second official major update to Madden NFL 25 on September 25, 2024. The downloadable update includes improvements to: gameplay, AI, online play, presentation, playbooks, and audio.

Madden NFL 25 Gameplay Updates

Notably, EA Sports developers have tuned the AI on both offense and defense. AI defenders will now attempt interceptions more often. Interceptions were too frequent and an issue in Madden NFL 24, erasing open throwing windows with warping animations — it is interesting that the AI was tuned to be more aggressive.

EA Sports’ decision to tune interceptions up appears to be a quick-fix to the larger problems that the defensive logic is currently presenting to gamers, as acknowledged by EA Sports in their first title update on 03Sept24.

Per EA Sports, 03Sept24:

We have clearly heard players’ desire for improvements to pass coverage, and the team is working on a significant set of improvements in a future title update. The incoming improvements being investigated include: Hard Flats, Cover 3 Deep Zone, Match coverage checks vs. bunch sets, Press animations, Zone Drop Coach Adjustments, In addition to pass coverage, we also have improvements on the way for kickoff exploits, blitzes, AI-play calling and spin-move tuning.”

The extensive list of defensive issues speaks for itself.

Continuing, EA Sports has made corrections to AI quarterback play whom were unable to distinguish between open and covered wide receivers.

Madden NFL 25 Boom Tech. Updates — Tackling and Collisions

Additionally, EA Sports has tuned player momentum in its physics-based tackles, and tuned the logic to improve collisions. Physics and tackling are core to football gaming — and it would appear that the new EA Sports Boom Tech. is an unfinished product given the latest updates to its flagship technology.

On a positive note, game players have reported that the Boom Tech (otherwise known as the in-game tackling engine) can be tuned via in-game sliders; and once manually-tuned properly, the tackling could be very smooth.

Madden NFL 25 is developed by EA Sports Orlando, Fl. and available on the Sony PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
