We are only two months into 2020 and DreamTeam has already made a couple of big changes to the platform. To continue to drive our metric, DreamTeam will continue in the direction of developing more social features and making our current features more game agnostic. 2020 is just getting started. Not only do we have a couple of new features in the pipeline, but we’ve also released the new Friends feature, launched the beta version of the Overwolf Apex Companion App, completely reworked the Apex challenge pages, and much more. Join us as we discuss some of the finer details in this edition of the DreamTeam Development Update.

Game Features

In January, the Game Features team worked hard to improve one of our most popular features, DreamTeam Challenges. As more and more users interact with the feature, we learn more about what users want from the feature. The newest Challenge updates will boost feature usage and overall platform retention.

Apex Legends

Over the course of January, Apex Challenges went through several updates and are now better than ever. So, why are Challenges better than ever? Find out below.

New Challenge Detail Pages

The following new sections have been added to the challenge detail pages:

  • Rewards — a leaderboard of who gets what upon challenge completion
  • Discord chat — a button leading to our Discord challenge channel for users to chat
  • Tips and Tricks — helps users find better teammates for the challenge with our LFG
  • Past winners similar to you — encourages users by showing them players like them win
  • Top Scoring Winners — a list of all-time best scores for that particular challenge
  • Similar challenges — a list of similar challenges making it easier for users to join future challenges

The changes will increase user engagement, not only with the challenges themselves but with the Apex community on Discord.

New Challenge List Page

The new Challenge list page has been developed and will separate the live, upcoming, Prime, and completed challenges into different sections. Users will no longer have to use filters to focus on one or the other. The “winners similar to you” section has also been added to the challenge list page. However, instead of users seeing how players of their skill have done in any particular challenge, users will see how much those players have won overall in challenges.

Prime Challenge Visibility

As the live, upcoming, Prime, and completed challenges have their own sections, the Prime Challenges are now more visible. Along with being in a separate section, the Prime Challenge cards are also highlighted in gold. This will boost Prime visibility and continue to push our metrics.

CoD: Modern Warfare

In January, Call of Duty also launched a small challenge update. “Weapon Mastery: M4A1”, “Beyond Nukes”, and a couple of new game modes were added to the challenge list. In addition to the new challenges, we’ve also updated the challenge rotations to make multi-challenge participation more profitable for our Prime members.

In February, the Game Features team will:

  • Release new Apex Challenge List pages
  • Release new Ranked system for Apex Challenges
  • Implement the Valentine’s Day promo
  • Start development of Player Search feature

Platform Features

In January, the Platform Features team worked to add our newest social feature, Friends. The Friends feature helps connect users, bring new users to the platform, and serves as a type of quick access menu for players who like checking their friends’ stats.

Friends Feature

Friends are players that you choose to follow. Followers are players who choose to follow you. Once a player who is followed is added as a friend, both players are friends as well as followers of each other.

Adding Friends

Players can add other players to their friends by clicking the “ADD TO FRIENDS” button on their Player Profile or stats page. Players can also remove friends in the same manner.

Searching for Friends

Players have the ability to search for their friends on DreamTeam. If their friends already have profiles, the player simply has to hit the “Add” button. If their friends don’t already have DreamTeam profiles, the player has the option to share the invite via Facebook, Twitter, or simply by copying a link that can be shared with anyone the user likes.

Suggesting Friends

DreamTeam automatically suggests friends that a player already has on their PSN or Xbox network. All a player has to do is click “add.”

Friend Invites

If a player has a friend that isn’t currently a DreamTeam member, the player will see an invite button and will have the option to share the invite via Facebook, Twitter, or simply by copying a link that can be shared anyone the user likes. This will help DreamTeam gain more users and help users build their network of friends.

In February, the Platform Features team will:

  • Release the Total Leaderboards by Friends feature for all games
  • Implement the Weekly Leaderboards by Friends feature for all games
  • Optimize the connecting game flow

Game Analytics

The Game Analytics team has been busy focusing on two major events, launching the Overwolf app and preparing for the mobile app launch. In between those two things, the Game Analytics team also updated the mobile navigation and launched a magazine promo.

Mobile Navigation Release

The mobile navigation release makes it much easier for users who use DreamTeam on their mobile devices. Updating the navigation is a short-term fix for now as the Android and iOS apps will negate using mobile web browsers to access DreamTeam. However, for those who will still want to use mobile web browsers, navigation will be as easy as possible.

Magazine Promo

For the entire month of January, DreamTeam ran a special magazine promotion which game Prime members a free magazine subscription of their choice upon signing up to become a Prime member.

Overwolf Landing

The Overwolf Companion App landing page was developed prior to the launch of the app. Users can download the app directly from the landing page or learn more about how the app works. Check out the landing page here.

Overwolf Companion App

The Overwolf Companion App helps Apex PC players win more often by providing additional in-game information.

Overview

Track the success of your actions and decisions. Immediately understand what helps and hurts your chance of winning. The Overwolf Companion pushes you to improve in real-time. Every in-game action displays suggestions based on data collected from thousands of matches played. Every moment, from Legend selection to becoming Champion, is processed and analyzed against thousands of global Apex Legend player experiences to increase your chances of winning.

Pick Assist

Uses big data to display which Legends work best together. After each Legend selection, you’ll see updated ratings that display which Legends to choose to build the best possible squad.

Radar & Heatmap

Appears on top of your in-game map and radar to show you where you should and shouldn’t be. Stay in the green zones to increase your K/D ratio. The app helps you remain aware of your surroundings and get caught out of position less often.

Player Vitals

Holding too much ammo and not enough heals? Ready to fight or continue to loot for better gear? Need to rotate? Displays your current chance of winning based on inventory, weapons, and positioning and helps you understand what to do to improve.

In February, the Game Analytics Team will:

  • Publish Android & iOS apps to mobile markets
  • Release promo codes functionality

Design Lab

In January, the Design Lab:

  • Updated design of Apex challenge lists
  • Created illustrations of new badges for Call of Duty challenges
  • Created OverWolf Apex Companion App promo banners and Companion trailer
  • Created promo for prime & magazine subscription offer
  • Created UX&UI of promo code usage
  • Designed UI of Friends feature
  • Created UX Clans concept
  • Updated friends leaderboards design

Blockchain and Payments

In January our Blockchain and Payments team started the implementation of DreamTeam Tokenomics. The following features were implemented in January:

  • Convert 100% of fiat purchases on the platform (Prime and Premium subscriptions) to DREAM using the fixed 1:1 rate
  • Notified the exchange bot to immediately buy DREAM for transactions
  • Sell 85% of the tokens received from fiat exchange
  • Lock the unsold 15% of the Tokens in a smart contract for five years
  • In case the spread is more than 1%, we just buy 15% of the Tokens amount that we are going to lock
  • Unlocking the Tokens is only possible after five years, and the unlock periods are bracketed by month. E.g., all transactions during January 2020 are unlocked on January 2025
  • Due to the higher liquidity provided, all transactions happen on the Kuna exchange. In the future, we’ll use the exchange with the current best Token buy/sell prices

In February, the blockchain and payments team will continue to work on developing features according to the Tokenomics to be able to release the Blockchain development roadmap by the end of March.
