Respawn launched version 1.1.1 of Apex Legends yesterday, addressing many complaints that fans have had over the past couple of months about a lack of rewards, character & gun balance, as well as bugs and cheating which have both become widespread.

The most impactful changes are the buffs given to Gibraltar and Caustic as well as the gun balancing which attempts to bring more weapons into viability. Respawn made an attempt to fix the problems with hitboxes by reducing the sizes of Pathfinder’s, Caustic’s, and Gibraltar’s in patch 1.1. But, they said the change only had a significant impact on Pathfinder. Many are saying that the change to everyone’s favorite robot has actually broken him, making him unhittable.

So, in 1.1.1, a new feature has been added to both Gib’s and Caustic’s passive. It’s called Fortified and will reduce all incoming damage to the bigs by 10%. Respawn has also stated that if the change doesn’t bring their win rate into line with the other characters, they will “aggressively tune” the feature until it offsets their hitbox sizes.

Gun changes were also introduced in an effort to make distance fighting more viable and to nerf overpowered weapons like the Wingman and Spitfire. It seems that both nerfing and buffing is centered around magazine size at the moment as Respawn probably sees this as the least intrusive way of tackling the problem. Here are the full patch notes for Apex Legends Patch 1.1.1.
