Are you frustrated with where you are at in life right? Are you always looking for the next thing on the horizon? Are constantly pursuing the next thing to buy or acquire to make your life more comfortable or flashy so other people will notice? Then this post is for you.

Recently I have found myself rather frustrated with life. I can list a hundred things that make me upset and unsettled and at the exact same time I can’t pinpoint it down to a single item.

In the midst of all that frustration, a wave of humility came across my soul, that was an act of service from my wife. You might not know my wife, but she is one of the most loving, selfless, and giving people I know. No matter how bad of a mood I am in she is always ready and willing to sacrifice her own comfort for my good. At that moment, I felt so small and petty in this world. Her act of service spoke so loudly that it made me utterly grateful for every small and big thing in my life.

You see the best way to get out of the pit of misery is simply to take step back and become grateful for everything you have in this life.

Now you might say, “Drew you don’t know me or my circumstance, I don’t have much, I am constantly struggling to make ends meet, and I don’t know what the future holds for me.” You’re right, I don’t know you, but I do know this, if you are alive and able to read this, you have more than half the people in the world have.

I recently went on a trip to Africa to help a missionary start their work over there. I was astounded at the utter level of poverty of each person. They say the average person in this part of Africa I was in makes $300 a month; that’s less than $5000 a year. I own more expensive pieces of technology than that and I carry them everyday to work.

We have so much to be thankful for in this life, and a lot of it does not have a dollar amount that can be assigned to it. If you have a family, friends, and people that love you, you are blessed. If you have a roof over your head and shoes on your feet, you are in the minority.

The Bible says in ‭‭I Timothy‬ ‭6:7–8‬…

“For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.” — ‭NKJV‬‬

You see the world doesn’t owe us anything; it was here long before we were born and will be here long after we are dead, we are just passing through.

So with that being said the question is this, is your journey going to be one of misery or gratitude, the choice is up to you.
