Food and travel have always been tightly intertwined, and this has never been more so than in Canada, with food, drink, and travel tours available in many areas of the country. Full of provinces with their own unique culinary traditions, Canada has something different to eat everywhere you go. From local delicacies to the heavy hitters of the culinary world, the Canadian food and travel tours stand out above the rest for their delightful sights as much as their culinary masterpieces.

St. John’s

The capital of Newfoundland, St. John’s is where the food scene has exploded over the last ten years. Home of the French-style concept of “terroir” cuisine, the Mallard Cottage Restaurant is a fantastic little place that is the best place to find local sausage and root vegetable hash in one dish. While the menu can change daily, they always have local dishes and seafood to delight your taste buds, such as whole hog roasts and lobsters.

Port Rexton

A few hour’s drive from St. John’s is the small town of Port Rexton, with its famous inn/restaurant, the Fisher’s Loft. Overlooking the most picturesque harbour, the Loft has extensive gardens to ensure fresh, home-grown vegetables that are 100 percent organic. And if you eat too much, you can always walk it off on the spectacular cliff trails along the coast.

Cape Bonavista

Another hour along the road and you get to Bonavista, and the Bonavista Social Club, which does a great wood-fired pizza or their renowned “ultimate mooseburger”.

Fogo Island

Over the ferry, a few hours away is the small Fogo Island, with its famous Fogo Island Inn. Featured on the BBC’s Amazing Hotels series, they specialize in the paddock-to-plate cuisine, with all local meats from their own farm.

Edmonton

The well-known Italian restaurant in downtown Edmonton known as the Uccellino is famous for its fresh, home-made pasta and delicious sauces with authentic Italian flavours.

Red Deer

The home of the Troubled Monk brewery, Red Deer is the local mecca for craft beers. An award-winning brewery, they have a wide selection of delicious beers and real ales to offer the beer connoisseur.

Calgary

One of the best places in Calgary, the hip tapas bar known as the Ox Bar de Tapas, is a must-try on the Canadian foodie circuit. Their tapas bravas contains a homemade ox sauce with aioli.

Turner Valley

Set at the base of the Rocky Mountains, the local favourite is the Chuckwagon Café, where the beef comes from the owner’s own ranch and is the focus of the menu.

Longview

The village of Longview is the place to find the historic Bar U Ranch, which supplies the famous Longview Steakhouse, the best place to find delicious Alberta beef.

With dozens of other foodie trails to try out in Canada, there is only one way to know which is your favourite; you have to try them all!
