Dubrovnik in Croatia is one of the many locations of HBO’s hit TV drama ‘Game of Thrones’. In fact, most of the scenes depicting King’s Landing were shot at this UNESCO World Heritage site, famous for its Gothic and Baroque architecture. Lets ‘set-jet’ across Dubrovnik for a guided tour into King’s Landing and see if some of the ancient buildings and streets ring any bells!

City Walls is the most featured exterior in Game of Thrones

Co-creator D.B. Weiss chose Dubrovnik because of its “immaculately preserved, medieval-walled city”. Many crucial and even violent scenes were shot at City Walls because of its Middle Age exteriors. Visitors can roam around the walled city and appreciate the spectacular views of the Adriatic Sea or terra-cotta rooftops for an affordable fee. One important advice: go early to avoid the crowd and summer heat!

Characters lunched at the Trsteno Arboretum Park

Trsteno Arboretum, also known as Red Keep’s Garden, is an old garden with tall and beautifully lined hedges and an amazing view of the sea. It is a beautiful spot to spend the day, as did most of the characters when plotting against each other. Walk throughout the Red Keep and try googling some of the scenes that were shot there!

An ancient fortress named Fort Lovrijenac

The fort has been used for some of Cersei’s most memorable scenes, one of them being Myrcella Baratheon’s departure to Dorne. However, tired visitors can avoid trekking to the fort and admire its magnificence from city walls, at the Nautica restaurant.

The Jesuit Stairs where Cersei began her ‘walk of atonement’

Located at St. Dominika Street, the Jesuit Stairs are mostly remembered as the starting point of Cersei’s nude walk of shame. Tourists can even buy shame bells at souvenir shops on the street while walking down the Baroque staircase. You’ll have the pleasure of enjoying the ancient architecture, comfortably seated at the many outdoor cafes lining the street.

A visit to the Island of Lokrum is a must for fans

Lokrum is perhaps the place you want to be if you’re a big GOT fan. It houses the most coveted chair, by both the main characters on the show and the fans, throughout the seven kingdoms, the Iron Throne.

You can comfortably reach the Island after a short ferry ride from the Old City port of Dubrovnik. The Iron Throne is housed in a small museum and you might want to charge up your phone for picture time. Lokrum is also the shooting location of some of Daenerys’s season two visit to Quarth. You can continue the GOT adventure or take a dip into the Adriatic waters for a swim.

Dubrovnik is the paradise for ‘Game of Thrones’ fans

Experience and enact the show’s best scenes with your friends while strolling around the city. Dubrovnik is certainly the paradise for fans wanting to tread the same path, streets, hidden alleys and buildings as their favorite characters of ‘Game of Thrones’. Get your Instagram captions ready!
