Perfect movies for a Halloween binge-watching session — Part 2
Here’s part 2 of our favourite movies to watch around Halloween. Some are scary and some are just fall classics!
The following 9 movies will definitely get you in the Halloween mood
The Nightmare Before Christmas
This Tim Burton animated masterpiece might sound a little out of place on this list. However, as its director Henry Slick confirmed, it is indeed a Halloween movie. Furthermore, the fact that the story unwinds amidst the setting of Halloween Town should be a dead giveaway.
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Starring a young Johnny Depp, the 1984 classic has undergone many remakes over the years. However, it is the original movie that first introduced the world to the creepy Freddy Kruger, and for this reason, it is the one version that you need to watch for your Halloween movie night.
Nosferatu
Nosferatu is to the world of vampires what The Night Of The Living Dead is to the zombie genre. Produced in 1922, the Dracula-adaptation might be almost 100 years old, but it is for sure one of the greatest horror movies of all time. Its influence is almost as ageless as vampires themselves!
The Omen
Both Rosemary’s baby and The Omen are great movies when it comes to the “child antichrist genre”, but the latter would be the more appropriate one for Halloween given Damien’s tremendously villainous character.
Poltergeist
In his movie Poltergeist, Tobe Hooper manages to grasp familiar fears and to turn them against us in a brilliant way. Moreover, the critically acclaimed ghost story will bring its audience along a rollercoaster of emotions as the real world and the spirit world intertwine into a nightmare.
Scream
Scream is definitely one of the most recognizable horror movies of the past three decades. Originally released in 1996, this movie has also undergone many sequels. However, the first ever scream movie would be the perfect pick if you are looking for something that involves both horror and comedy.
The Shining
The Shining is another of Stephen King’s iconic stories. The movie adaptation of the novel was realized by Stanley Kubrick in 1980. The imagery used throughout the tale — the twins, the maze, and the hotel — have permeated pop culture forever, making the movie a definite Halloween must-watch.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of those movies that has had a definite imprint on pop-culture. Released in 1974, the movie still endures in popularity today. If you want proof, just count the numerous Leatherface costumes that are bound to be strolling about on Halloween night.
Trick R’ Treat
This Halloween classic is an anthology that rapidly became a cult classic because of its then limited theatrical release. Its format allows it to cover multiple genres, therefore attracting multiple crowds into one big scary experience. It is an absolute go to for a Halloween movie night!
And there you have it, a list of movies perfect for any Halloween movie marathon. Enjoy!
