Tiny Homes emerge as the next big concept

Started by Dan and Cindy Hamilton of Dublin, Modern Tiny Living is an enterprise that promotes a new way of living. Its founders want to prove to the world that the concept of Tiny Homes is not as outlandish as it seems and that it could eventually become the next more viable solution to America’s current housing situation.

An Irish couple launched an American company

Before starting Modern Tiny Living — their Columbus, Ohio based company — Dan and Cindy Hamilton were selling health products. The couple decided to invest its time in its current line of business after talking to a friend who managed to peak their interest in the concept of living comfortably in a small space. While their enterprise is slowly starting to take off, their endeavour persevered as many are not aware of the concept that they promote. However, the Hamiltons do believe that Tiny Homes could endure as an affordable housing option in America.

Tiny Homes surface as an innovative concept

Tiny Homes are full-blown houses but miniaturized to the bare minimum. A conventional Tiny Home would range from 170 to 238 square feet in area. While this allows the house the be towed by a pick-up truck, some of the more top of the line models do not compromise on comfort and style. Those come with wooden floors, full-size appliances, tiled bathrooms, metal roofs, and even quartz countertops! This could, of course, bring the price of a $40,000 standard home to a more hefty $80,000. But for the Hamiltons, it’s still value for money.

The Hamiltons’ endeavour gains visibility

As esoteric as the concept of Tiny Homes might seem, it has actually already been covered by quite a plethora of television shows. Some of them would include “Tiny House, Big Living”, “Tiny House Builders”, and “Tiny House Hunters”. However, because of it being featured on various TV shows that play on the idea that Tiny Homes are uncommon, people tend to think of the project as more of a curiosity that temporarily peaks interest rather than a serious business venture.

Advancement looms in the horizon

The next big step for the Hamiltons is to launch their first Tiny Home Community: Cedar Springs Tiny Village. The settlement will comprise 30 lots on the shore of Silver Lake in New Paris. A big challenge to overcome in the making of that project was to find an adequate location. Not every municipality allows Tiny Homes, which also require municipal resources such as water, sewer, and electricity. But after much fighting, the Community is now on its way and already has its first future resident!

The future of Tiny Homes remains uncertain

A real-estate agent of New Paris, Bill Sweet, wonders if Tiny Homes are nothing but part of a temporary trend. However, he sees value in the Hamilton’s Cedar Springs community, as the later remains in proximity to Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, and Indianapolis. Adding the lake setting to the picture, Bill thinks that the project could be a solid option as a well-situated vacation rental. But whether the concept is meant to be a matter of temporary accommodation or rather of lasting residence remains for the future to decide.
