How do we overcome our expectations to embrace change?

How do we let go of a pre-conceived idea and try something different?

These are questions I got to ask this weekend when we decided to cook our own pizzas, a decision that went down well with everyone, except youngest child. We can replicate your favourite take-out topping, we suggested. It just wasn’t going to do.

It’s just not the same.

He’s right, it’s not the same. Our pizza bases do taste different, and whilst we might attempt to include the same sauce and toppings, they are undoubtedly different varieties or brands. It’s similar but not the same.

How to move from a fixed expectation to exploring a new possibility?

Enter the ‘what if’ questions. What if questions help switch our thinking to consider other opportunities and alternative possibilities. What if questions can get us unstuck from our fixed expectations.
