What is CUET?
The Common University Exam Test or CUET is an all-India entrance level test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to enrol students in Under Graduate (UG) courses offered by central universities.
Is it a test for PG courses or PhD courses too?
CUET covers undergraduate, postgraduate and research programs. However, here we will be talking only about UG programmes.

Is CUET mandatory for central universities?
Yes, CUET is mandatory for all 44 central universities.
Are the CUET and CUCET exams different?
Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) was renamed by the National Testing Agency to Common University Entrance Test (CUET) after introducing certain changes to the former.
Do 12th board marks matter for admission into central universities?
The marks secured in Grade 12 for eligibility will vary across programs and Universities. The basic eligibility criteria is a key factor for admission to all Universities and other examinations such as JEE & NEET at the National Level. Hence the importance of marks obtained in the 12th board exams can’t be reduced.
Who can apply for CUET?
Any student who has scored a minimum of 50% in the 12th board examinations from any recognised institute is eligible for CUET (UG).
SC/ST students need a minimum of 45%.
Should students focus on the 12th exam or CUET preparation?
The syllabus for the subject/domain tests of CUET (UG) 2022 will be based on Class 12 so, there is no pressure on the candidates to prepare for both the exams parallelly. However, a 50% score in board examinations is necessary to be eligible for CUET.
Is CUET based on the class 12 syllabus?
The majority of the syllabus is based on the class 12 syllabus to make things simpler for students.
Will CUET become an exclusive test meant only for those who can afford coaching classes?
CUET is mainly based on the syllabus that class 12 students have already covered. Even if they leave out certain parts, there will be multiple choices for the questions to be attempted in the CUET examination.
CUET can be attempted in how many languages?
CUET is available in 13 languages - English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
Are there any sample papers for CUET 2022?
Although there is a lack of sample papers for this exam, there are many available options (like mock test series) on the internet.
A mock test series for 2022 has been released on the official site of Drishti CUET.
What is the style in which questions will be asked in CUET?
CUET is an objective paper. There will be multiple-choice questions (MCQs).
How many centres will be conducting CUET?
Currently, there are around 150 exam centres conducting CUET.
Is CUET a computer-based exam?
Yes, CUET is an online computer-based examination.
How to fill out the CUET application form for UG courses?
The CUET 2022 application process would comprise multiple steps including registration, application, image upload and payment.
The application has been accessible since 6th April 2022 and will close on 22nd May 2022 (as per the latest notification).
Steps to fill out the CUET form are as follows:
Step 1 — Visit the official website to fill out the Application Form. (https://cuet.samarth.ac.in/)
Step 2 — To register, click on ‘Apply Online’
Step 3 — After the link opens up, you will see three program options - UG, PG and RP. Choose the UG program.
Step 4 — Enter the details like the program applied for, name, email-id, mobile number, date of birth and verification code that are displayed on the screen.
Step 5 — Once you submit the details, an application number and password are immediately generated and sent to the registered email address and phone number.
Step 6 — Use the details sent to you (application number and password) to log in and fill out the application form. Enter the details asked for, in the form.
Step 7 — Upload images of a passport-sized photograph and signature using the information and steps given.
Step 8 — Select your preferred examination centre and enter the others according to your preference.
Step 9 — Pay the given fees using the online modes of payment available.
Step 10 — Once you successfully submit your online application with payment of fees, an automated email and SMS are sent to your registered email address and mobile number, confirming your application.
What reservations are available for CUET?
Scheduled castes — 15%
Scheduled tribes — 7.5%
Other Backward Classes (OBC) — 27%
Persons with Disability (PWD) — 5%
Do we have to take separate exams for different domain subjects we choose under CUET?
Yes, a candidate has to give separate exams for different domain subjects.
What is the maximum number of tests to be taken in CUET?
The maximum number of tests to be taken remains 9 only i.e. two Languages + six Domain-Specific Subjects + one General Test OR three Languages + five Domain-Specific Subjects + one General Test.
What abilities does CUET test?
- English Language - Comprehension passages, fundamentals of grammar like incorrect sentences, fill in the blanks with appropriate words and vocabularies like antonyms and synonyms.
- Numerical ability - Arithmetic, number system, algebra and modern mathematics.
- General awareness and current affairs - General knowledge and current affairs (national and international).
- Logical and Analytical Reasoning - Logical sentences, syllogisms, series, analogies, puzzles, directions and seating arrangements.
What is the CUET exam date for 2022?
The exact date hasn’t come out yet but it can be expected to be held in the month of July 2022.
The official dates will be out on the CUET and NTA websites.
Will there be negative markings in CUET?
Each question carries 5 marks.
One mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.
How many attempts can be given under CUET?
There are no restrictions on the number of attempts that can be given or on the candidate’s age.
If you have passed the 12th board examination or any equivalent one, or are appearing for the 12th board finals in 2022, you are eligible to appear in the test.
However, for 2022, CUET is scheduled to be conducted only once in July.
Will CUET 2022 be stressful for students of the current batch of class 12 as they have mostly studied online due to COVID-19?
To keep up with the post-Covid-19 situation, the CUET examination has been switched from offline mode to online. Since the syllabus is the same as the 12th examination, CUET 2022 under normal circumstances should not add any extraordinary stress.
The undergraduate course I want to do is not available in the list of 27 Domain-Specific Subjects being offered in CUET (UG) 2022? What should I do?
Please check with the Central University where the course is being offered to find out the tests that should be taken in CUET (UG) 2022 for the purpose of admission to that course.
