CUET can be a boon for all the confused students who don’t know where to go for higher studies. Students now have a chance to enrol among the top 44 central universities in India for undergraduate, postgraduate, research programs, certification courses, etc.

CUET will be held for the first time in July 2022 and is a good gateway to higher education. It is expected that more than 20 lakh students will appear for this exam, making it one of the largest entrance exams ever.

As the competition is quite high, students must prepare themselves with everything they have.

All the students participating in the exam need a rock-solid strategy to cover everything necessary before the exam date.

This article will cover every essential thing that you need to clear the exam and grab a good University.

CUET Exam Structure

The CUET exam structure will be divided into three sections:

How To Prepare For Individual Sections In CUET

Language

A candidate can choose one of the 13 languages to attempt the exam. Here the proficiency of the chosen language will be tested through different types of passages, narrative, literary and factual vocabulary. Hence, this section will not need a lot of preparation and will totally depend on your language skills.

Domain-specific Subjects For CUET

This section comprises questions based on specific subjects. There can be two types of students giving this exam.

  • One, who has a clear idea of which career path they prefer and related subjects
  • And another, who are not sure what subjects are best for them

So, those who are sure about their subjects, know what they have to study. If they have their domain-specific subject in the 12th syllabus, they are learning it already.

But, students who aspire to study a subject which is not included in their syllabus will need to spend some time every day reading the chapters (preferably one chapter a day) of their subjects.

However, all students can follow the following study regime.

General Aptitude Test For CUET

Make a list of what kind of questions will be there (as mentioned in the table above). Students who are trying to change the stream should invest more time in preparing general aptitude tests.

  • Candidates will need to purchase some books dedicated to this section such as An Advanced Approach To Data Interpretation For Competitive Examinations by R. S. Aggarwal and General Aptitude Test by Drishti Publications.
  • Learn news from newspapers, news websites or any source of media. Stay updated with the current happenings. One good source is our daily Current Affairs updates — https://www.drishtiias.com/current-affairs-news-analysis-editorials

Those who are weak at Maths will also need to study NCERT of class 8 for this section.

Strategy For CUET

Where to study from?

The first step is to download the PDF of the subject-specific syllabus from the official website of CUET- https://cuet.samarth.ac.in/

Most of the CUET syllabus is covered through the 12th standard curriculum of all three national boards i.e., CBSE, AICSE & NIOS syllabus.

Also remember, the standard source of information should be your NCERT of class 12th. It is the core source of MCQs.

Purchase extra books only after covering NCERT three times. The purpose of extra books is to practice and figure out if students can implement what they studied in the form of MCQ.

How to study for CUET?

Now that students know that they have to begin their preparation with NCERTs, the next big question they need an answer to is - how should they do it?

  • You can begin by choosing a topic. Cover it thoroughly. In case a doubt crops up, you can always use a reliable resource or take the help of an expert to clear it.
  • While reading, underline the keywords from the perspective of MCQ formation.
  • Make sets of MCQs in your notes while reading NCERT.
  • Evaluate your progress with the help of practice books. Try solving the MCQs available in these books to find out if this method of study is working for you or not.
  • You can also employ various time management techniques like the “Pomodoro Technique” to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of your preparation.

Do students need coaching or a paid course for clearing CUET?

There’s no one answer to this question. It largely depends on the potential and interests of a student. Students need to figure out on their own whether they need a paid course or not. To do this, they should do some research on their domain-specific subject to know whether they are able to understand the concepts clearly or not.

If a candidate feels like multiple revisions from free resources are enough for him/her to be exam ready, then there is no need for excess preparation or guidance. However, even after exploring the free sources, if a student feels that they lack in their preparation, then paid courses can be opted for.

Conclusion

  • Read the CUET syllabus thoroughly.
  • Know the CUET exam pattern and marking scheme.
  • Get the right study material for CUET (books, mock test papers and test series).
  • Create a weekly timetable on how much you can cover daily and follow it religiously.
  • Solve lots of question papers and multiple mock tests.
