The reality is, Branding is a process that can be employed at anytime in the life of a company. Big companies rebrand every few years. That said, they all started with Branding. And you should too, as it will make all of your marketing and communication efforts far easier.

Let us explain.

In the chart below, YOUR BUSINESS is on the left side of the screen. You have identified a problem or opportunity to solve for, have created a solution with a unique value proposition for a particular audience.

But most startups jump from the left side of the screen, launching a business, to the right side of the screen, YOUR CONTENT, without considering brand.

This approach is the non-strategy strategy. The way we tell the world who we are is through content — lots and lots of content. Logo, company name, website, social media, investor decks, executive summaries, the list is endless. So getting your content right matters — a lot.

Let’s suppose you start creating a social media campaign or designing a website — how are you making decisions about what you want to say, how to say it, the imagery you’ll use? Most startups companies just wing it, and the result is usually fragmented content that doesn’t do what it needs to do — draw the attention and interest of the audience they’re trying to attract.

This is where Branding comes in. It is the process to clearly define how you look, sound and behave so there is no guessing or subjective calls being made about the story you want to tell. All your content — your marketing content, brand assets and even your product itself — should tell the same, singular story.
