What made you pursue a career in your Public Health Sector ?

Throughout my 13-year career in the healthcare industry, I have had the privilege of serving in various senior roles within the Ministry of Health Somalia and the Somali Health Sector. These positions have included Medical Services Director, Health Systems Strengthening Lead , Universal Health Coverage In Charge, National Incident Manager for COVID-19 AND other outbreaks and Director General of the largest National Hospital in Mogadishu Somalia My journey in this industry has been driven by a deep passion for public health and a strong commitment to improving the health outcomes of the Somali population.

One of the main factors that motivated me to pursue a career in this industry is the opportunity to make a profound and lasting impact on the lives of individuals and communities. I firmly believe that healthcare is a basic human right, and I am dedicated to ensuring that every person in Somalia has access to quality healthcare services. By working in the public health sector, I have been able to contribute to efforts aimed at reducing health disparities and improving health outcomes for the most vulnerable populations.

Furthermore, the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of the healthcare industry has been a driving force behind my career choice It is incredibly rewarding to be at the forefront of these changes and to contribute to the development and implementation of policies and programs that address the evolving health needs of the Somali population.

Another significant factor that influenced my career path is the opportunity to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, both within Somalia and internationally. The healthcare industry is highly interdisciplinary, and effective healthcare delivery requires the coordination and cooperation of healthcare professionals, policymakers, researchers, and community leaders. Through these collaborations, we are able to share knowledge, expertise, and best practices, resulting in more impactful and sustainable health interventions.

Lastly, the resilience and strength of the Somali people have been a constant source of inspiration for me. Despite facing numerous challenges such as conflict, poverty, and limited resources, the Somali population has consistently demonstrated a determination to overcome these obstacles and improve their health outcomes. Their resilience fuels my passion to make a difference and drives me to work tirelessly to strengthen the health system and ensure equitable access to healthcare services for all.
