Welcome to the IntelligentUAS blog site where we talk about the different custom drone solutions we provide to our industrial clients. Today’s blog will feature one of our most popular builds, the Phantom Vue Thermal Drone.

Starting in early 2015, more and more clients were asking us for a thermal solution that could mount on their existing Phantom 2 drone. DJI had yet to release a thermal option for their aircraft, so we took it upon ourselves to make the perfect integrated solution.

We quickly decided to combine the FLIR Tau series with the Phantom 2, but there wasn’t a mount available. Our design team quickly came up with a static solution with the camera pointing 45 degrees downward. This worked but limiting the camera to 45 degrees was not going to meet the clients needs down the road.

We had to find a way to be able to tilt the camera while it was in the sky.

The major breakthrough came when DJI announced an upgraded version of the Phantom 2 drone right before the Phantom 3 release. Our design team was able to get an early release of the drone and immediately found a way to integrate a third party servo that could control the tilt of the camera with the dial on the transmitter.

We also incorporate our basic FPV combo as part of the solution. This includes a video transmitter, and on screen display, and a ground monitor for live video feed.

So what makes the Phantom Vue Thermal Drone our best selling thermal solution?

The first reason is the Price. Coming in around $5000 for the standard package, the Phantom Vue Thermal is one, if not the most affordable thermal drone solutions on the market.

The second reason is the Form Factor. The DJI Phantom series is known for its portability. The Phantom Vue Thermal drone is our smallest thermal solution. It also fits perfectly in our custom designed travel cases.

The third reason is the DJI Flight Controller. DJI copters are sometimes referred to as tripods in the sky. This is accomplished with current breakthroughs in GPS technology. DJI Copters help you learn to fly and also allow you to focus more on the application.

The Final reason is Flight Time. The Phantom Vue Thermal Drone has about a 20 minute flight time. The industry standard is about 15 minutes. Having that extra 5 minutes could make the difference in certain time sensitive industries.
