There’s something special about a bunch of friends huddled over a hot grill pit cooking meat, catching up and drinking. What makes this experience so memorable? Is it the sound of the sizzling wagyu, the loud background chatter from other tables, the warmth of the red-hot coals or perhaps the lingering smell on your clothes afterwards? Whatever it may be, there truly is something unforgettable about Korean BBQ.

Last night, I had the pleasure of checking out the newly opened 678 Korean BBQ branch in Eastwood. Following on the incredible fame of the city branch on Pitt St, the owners have decided to open up in the suburb of Eastwood. It’s only been open 2 weeks and already, incredibly busy. Lining up is definitely required for the city branch, and soon enough there will be pretty long lines for this Eastwood branch. With the help of this amazing app called QueueTix, you can basically avoid waiting in line for ages. Instead, you get a text message when your table is up so you can be out and about doing other stuff whilst progressing in the queue.

Tonight, I was with some of my favourite foodie friends, Lilopeng, Ryan La, Dion Woo and Danny. We were treated to a feast of all varieties of meat, dozens of gyoza and the iconic Korean seafood pancake. I’m drooling just remembering back to it all! Highly recommend the wagyu and beef brisket! There’s delicious dipping sauces for the meat too. The staff are so friendly and happy to show you the best way to cook and eat the meat to maximise flavour. Also, the one thing that I loved about this place which I thought was quite ingenius was the egg and cheese along the circumference of the grill plate — excellent for adding a bit off cheesy goodness to your meat!

Here’s some of what we had to eat:

Overall

678 Korean BBQ in Eastwood is an excellent place to enjoy Korean BBQ in the suburbs! It’s spacious, shiny & new and above all, serves up some fine quality and scrumptious meats. You have to have their wagyu — it is divine! Will definitely come back again for a fun night out!

Verdict: Drool Worthy

Service: 5/5
