i-Creamy Artisan Gelato, Sydney
Famous for the exquisite rose-shaped gelato
Located at Skyview Shopping Plaza, 13/537–551 George St, Sydney NSW 2000
The words “Artisan Gelato” get loosely tossed around from time to time. Many owners promote their gelatarias with this term to give their brand that air of sophistication and refinement, when in actuality their gelato is pretty sub-standard. However, there is an exception. In Sydney, that exception is I-Creamy Artisan Gelato — a small gelato joint that truly embodies the spirit of food artistry.
This gelataria first exploded into mainstream popularity after photos of a rose-shaped ice cream treat popped up on Instagram feeds. Sydney was abuzz with the elusive flower gelato. Fortunately, I caught on to this trend and rushed to the store to grab my hands on the edible rose.
The lines are pretty ridiculous, spiralling around the Skyview Shopping Plaza. For those of you who don’t know, the Skyview Shopping Plaza is located along the bustling strip of George St. It currently houses well-known establishments including Pepper Lunch and the udon specialty store Menya.
At i-Creamy, they don’t just offer the infamous flower gelato but you can order normal scoops in a cup or a cone. It’s relatively cheaper than the flower gelato and takes a quarter of the time to create. There’s heaps of delicious flavours to choose from — my favourite being the Thai Milk Tea.
What I love about this place is the care and attention they give to each of their creations. The workers sculpt the rose petal by petal and patrons can choose up to three flavours. I chose the Pinky Milk, Espresso and Cookies and Cream varieties. The mosaic of pink, brown and beige blended together perfectly to make for a great Insta-worthy shot!
Overall
I absolutely love how innovative this little geletaria is! It’s definitely worth a visit, even it’s just to see how meticulous the owners are when they work on their creations. The concept of the flower gelato was conceived in Italy, but has since expanded internationally to the States, Asia and now Australasia. I-Creamy doesn’t compromise on taste, as the flavours are incredibly rich and creamy. There’s evidently a great deal of Asian influence in the flavour options, understandable considering the owners are Thai.
Verdict: Yummy in my Tummy
Service: 3/5
Cost: $4.60 — $8.90 (for up to three flavours)
