My Instagram feed has recently been exploding with photos of cronuts with chocolate-filled syringes and French Toast topped with pink fairy floss. Today, we finally got our hands on these desserts and boy, was I impressed. Not only by the presentation but importantly, the taste.

The Tiny Giant, formerly The Grumpy Barista, is a quaint and cosy cafe in Petersham, only a 3 minute walk away from the train station. As I walked inside, my gaze was turned upwards to the beautiful high ceiling with art deco style design. Against the back wall, behind the front counter, is a fresh burst of greenery with ferns and shrubs sprouting from minature terracotta pots.

Of course, we had to order the Famous Brioche Toast. This was served with strawberries, figs, mixed berries, Canadian maple, salted caramel, mascarpone and topped with Persian pashmak or fairy floss. The picture below says it all. It was fruity, sweet, lovely and perfectly balanced. Highly recommended and not just as a photo for your Instagram account.

And we couldn’t resist the Nutella and Oreo Cronut complete with a Nutella-filled syringe. The cronut was already filled with a combination of Nutella and a deliciously sweet icing but with an extra healthy injection of Nutella, this elevated the cronut to the next level. Honestly, hands down, the best cronut I have ever had. Also, it’s just a lot of fun injecting the cronut with Nutella!

For a bit of savoury, we decided on the Baked Hotpot. This consisted of slow cooked tomato sugo, mushrooms, onion, Danish feta and free-range eggs all baked in a piping-hot iron pan. For ours, we decided to add on chorizo which adds a load of meaty flavour. We also opted for a side of avocado which came on the side along with a crunchy piece of toast.

We also ordered a latte and a freshly mixed juice. For the juice, you can mix and match — I chose apple, orange and ginger.

There are also a variety of other cronuts to pick from as well as selection of brownies and ornate gluten free cakes to choose from at the counter.

Overall

The Tiny Giant in Petersham is a must-visit brunch spot in Sydney. If you love Instagramming your food photos, then this is the place for you. Every photo I took today was effortlessly beautifully because care and attention was put into the presentation of the food. It makes a huge difference. Not only does the food look stunning, but the taste is spot on. You have to try their Nutella-injected cronuts!
