When you think of café franchises, the likes of Gloria Jeans and Michel’s Patisserie spring to mind. Three Beans Café is redefining what it means to be a café franchise by prioritising organic, quality produce sourced from sustainable suppliers. With over 23 stores in the Sydney region alone, this café is garnering both popularity and traction.

I was invited to the Broadway Shopping Centre store to sample a few of their signature dishes. Accompanied by a friend, we weaved through the crowds and found the café on a upper level. Three Beans looked like a little oasis amidst all the retail stores that were packed to the rafters with customers.

The café itself looked very lush, with its vibrant greenery and floral arrangements. The food matched the colourful aesthetic given the beautiful garnishes atop our food. We ordered the ancient grain salad and the corn and zucchini fritters. Each of these dishes were beautifully adorned with flowers.

The Ancient Grain Salad was made up of a delicious and healthy selection of ingredients ranging from buckwheat, quinoa, fresh herbs, avocado, beetroot labneh to poached chicken. I liked how the avocado was diced so that the creaminess of the avocado was evenly distributed throughout the salad. There was a generous serving of poached chicken, which in and of itself packed a lot of flavour. The walnuts added a nice sugary crunch, that balanced the flavours of the labnah, herbs and chicken.

The Corn and Zucchini Fritters were just as aesthetically pleasing as the ancient grain salad. It had a nice medley of colours given the presence of spicy tomato relish, avocado and rocket. Only registering 1010kj, it was certainly a healthy brunch item! It would have tasted even better if the spicy relish had a little bit more of a kick to it.

Overall

The food at Three Beans Café, both in terms in presentation and taste, far exceeded my expectations as far as a café franchise was concerned. It is obvious the staff at Three Beans pay extra care and attention to ensuring the produce is of utmost quality before it is served to patrons. The prices were pretty affordable, especially considering the quality of the food. The founders, Matt and James, have made it their mission to ensuring all the food is additive and preservative free and has been sourced from suppliers that adopt strict animal welfare practices. So if you’re looking for both a convenient and ethical brunch spot, look no further than Three Beans!
