Recruiting is unquestionably hard. What with the myriads of CV’s to peruse, the background checks, the Reference checks, creating a great Job description, advertising the role, building a talent pool, creating an impressive employer brand and ensuring a great Candidate experience.

Add to all of these the need to keep ahead of the competition by implementing innovative strategies and tactics for the grand purpose of winning the war for talent. Chief among the most innovative and proven strategies for attracting talent are Mobile and Data driven recruiting. Let’s take these strategies from two perspectives; the Employer’s and the Candidate’s.

Mobile Recruiting:

The whole point of implementing this strategy is to meet Applicants where they spend the bulk of their time “the Smartphone”. This strategy is strangely ignored by quite a number of companies. Interestingly, 78% of Candidates use their smartphones to view listings and apply for open positions. That’s four fifths of your entire talent pool. A great mobile strategy helps create a better Candidate experience by ensuring that the Candidate’s experience is front and centre in every aspect of your recruiting process. Make anything that can be mobile smartphone friendly. Here’s a checklist to do that with recommendations and Vendors.

Data driven recruiting:

Data is at the center of how today's businesses run, helping drive better decision making. Applying a data driven approach to how Companies recruit improves the search process, employee fit and employee engagement. Here’s how LinkedIn describes Data driven recruiting; It’s the analysis and interpretation of talent pool data to find the best people for your organization faster. Of course to a large extent, data driven recruiting can be unclear even for some professional analysts. Yet there are already immense gains been had in recruiting for companies that apply it. Investing in systems, tools and technologies that help make sense of recruiting and talent pool data will make growing and maintaining a strong workforce faster, effective and more accurate.

So to say Recruitment has changed and is moving away from traditional practices is at best an understatement. Recruitment has completely changed and will continue to change as the landscape of work evolves and as the lines that defined the workplace begin to erode.

Recruiters and Companies who want the best people working for their organizations and their clients have to strategically implement both mobile and data driven recruiting to withstand the global shortages of talent and to win in the extremely brutal talent wars. To remain profitable, competitive and innovative, Companies and their HR departments have to look beyond the average methods and craft a unique approach to their recruitment efforts. Having a Candidate-centric approach built on the pillars of mobile and data is a great way to start.
