If something expensive goes wrong, you’re left with a big repair bill, or a car suddenly worth a lot less. Either way, it comes out of your pocket. Why take the gamble?
  4. Hassle: The older the car, the more looking after it needs. MOTs start to bring out issues that you’re obliged to fix. Little, but important things will stop working too which either get sorted at great expense, or linger at great annoyance.
  5. Getting rid of his car will be expensive or annoying, but probably both: You have two choices when getting rid of a car. The easy way with a low price, by for example doing a dealer part exchange or a £0 starting bid auction on eBay. The hard way in search of a higher price but which involves a lot of time dealing with punters who inevitably waste your time, the so called “tyre kicker”.
