So, you’re in need of a car and looking for a good deal, but how do you know you’ve found one?

Unfortunately it’s not as simple as comparing sticker prices. You should consider what car, ownership type and level of service are best suited to your needs and find all of this at a great price.

These days, most prices are expressed monthly. Here are our 6 top tips when comparing monthly car deals:

  1. You’ll usually find a large non refundable deposit somewhere in the small print distorting the monthly price to make it look small. Spread this across the monthly payments to get a true picture.
  2. Generally, only basic levels of maintenance and a small mileage allowance are included. Think about the cost of items such as tyres, insurance, breakdown cover, road tax and additional miles.
  3. Don’t be fooled by images of beautiful, high spec cars on adverts. The price advertised is usually for an unlovable, entry spec model.
  4. While prices are advertised monthly, you’ll usually be committed for years at a time. If your circumstances suddenly change and you need a different vehicle you’ll likely be penalised. Make sure you understand the early termination fees when starting.
  5. Used cars provide great value motoring, however, you’ll rarely find them offered on a PCP or leasing deal with a high level of maintenance and a good warranty. Do ask your dealer to construct such a deal for you, you may get lucky.
  6. Use our simple calculator to ensure you are comparing like for like:

At Drover we like to make it easy with 3 main features you won’t see elsewhere:

— 1. A transparent, all-inclusive monthly price:

The Drover Price includes road tax, MOTs, breakdown cover and all the maintenance and servicing your car, new or used, will require. We know you’ll need it, so insurance is incorporated at checkout which saves you from needing to fill endless online forms.

— 2. Complete flexibility with a monthly-rolling subscription:

This means you can cancel, downgrade or upgrade your vehicle on a monthly basis. If you’re not sure on the exact vehicle you need, relax, because changing your mind is free.

— 3. A fully digital service and quick delivery:

Subscribe to a car from the comfort of your home without the influence of a well versed, bank emptying salesman’s pitch. Our vehicles are in stock and available for delivery so you won’t be left hanging for sourcing or production delays.

We think once you experience the transparency, flexibility and level of service Drover offers you’ll never want to go back. Thankfully, the rational mathematician in you can agree because comparing apples with apples shows Drover is generally cheaper or equivalent to a traditional, inflexible PCP deal. Take a look at our comparison for a Mini Hatch, 1.5d auto with Chili Pack.
