DrSkin | What Is Body Contouring?

You have put in the work to achieve a healthier version of you, but there may be some things you wish you could tone and tighten just a little more. Body contouring is one of the best ways to achieve your aesthetic goals. At DrSkin, our caring team will consult with you to outline the best course of action for your body contouring procedure, ensuring the lasting results you want.

There are many kinds of body contouring available, and it is best to sit down with a professional to learn about your options. At DrSkin, we offer CoolSculpting, a non-invasive form of body contouring that is highly effective. CoolSculpting utilizes cryolipolysis, which freezes the fat cells that are unaffected by diet and exercise. At certain temperatures, fat cells start to break apart. CoolSculpting targets the fat without damaging other areas of your skin.

FDA-approved, pain-free, and quick, CoolSculpting body contouring offers results that look natural and last for a long time. If you ever wanted to get rid of stubborn belly and thigh fat without undergoing liposuction, body contouring is a safe and viable option.

BENEFITS OF BODY CONTOURING

  • Results last for many years, and most treated areas will have permanent fat cell reduction
  • No surgery, anesthesia, or scarring
  • Little to no side effects or downtime after the procedure
  • CoolSculpting can be performed on many regions of the body, including thighs, upper arms, chin, and lower abdomen

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM BODY CONTOURING

The team at DrSkin warmly welcomes you to our office first for a consultation to learn if the medical grade body sculpting techniques we use are right for you. We work with you to ensure that your body contouring meets your expectations. After settling on a care program, we will schedule the date of your first body contouring session.

Since the methods we utilize are non-invasive, there is not much prep to do beforehand. Come in comfortable clothing. Your friendly technician will apply the body contouring applicator to your body. There will be a slight sucking or tightening sensation at the beginning and then the cooling effect.

During the procedure, you might feel some tingling, pinching, and stinging, but you should not be too uncomfortable. Once the session is done, the applicator is removed, and your technician will briefly massage the treated area to help break up the fat cells and stimulate fat reduction.

The time of each session depends on the size of the treated areas, though some sessions may be over in as little as 35 minutes.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

For most individuals who undergo body sculpting, you will see a 20–25% visible fat reduction after your first session. This depends on what regions you had treated, and so additional treatments may be needed to fully achieve your desired aesthetic. You will learn the best course of action after speaking with one of our friendly technicians.

Regardless of the number of sessions you receive, you will notice the final results about 3–6 months post-treatment.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Yes, there are some possible side effects during and after the treatment, but these are usually short-lived. Side effects can include:

  • Bruising
  • Tingling
  • Numbness
  • Aching
  • Tenderness
  • Redness
  • Firmness

The severity of the side effects depends on where you were treated. Some people who have CoolSculpting applied to the throat may feel like there is something stuck when swallowing. This sensation should fade with time.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR BODY CONTOURING?

Body contouring procedures, including CoolSculpting, are not for everyone. Please understand that body contouring is not designed for those diagnosed with obesity. It is a technique to remove fat that is resistant to diet and exercise. As such, the FDA has approved non-invasive body contouring for reducing only small deposits of fat on the body.

Furthermore, there are some people who should not try CoolSculpting due to medical conditions that include:

  • Cold agglutinin disease
  • Cryoglobulinemia
  • Paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria (PCH)

Before opting to undergo any cosmetic procedure, please speak with a medical professional regarding your health. Medications and certain conditions can put your well-being at risk.
