If you are a heart, kidney, or liver transplant recipient, you have reason to be dismayed by the shortage of tacrolimus capsules reported by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Note at the bottom of the report that there is also a shortage of azathioprine, often taken concurrently with tacrolimus when a person’s immune system must be suppressed after an organ transplant in order to prevent the body from rejecting the donated organ.
