It’s never a bad idea to take a look at something from a different perspective. You’ll see that’s exactly what artist Dash Shaw does with his piece, “Wheel of Fortune.” Having appeared in the“Poetry Comix & Animation” folio of DB 20, Winter 2014, this animated short shows off Shaw’s unique style through an artistic representation of something we might consider the opposite of creativity — an age-old T.V. gameshow — and encourages us to examine aspects of a pop culture hit that we might never have noticed otherwise.

Dash Shaw is a cartoonist and animator whose very first feature length film, My Entire High School… Sinking into the Sea, premiered only days ago at the Toronto International Film Festival. His graphic novel, “New School”, was named one of the best books of 2013 by NPR. His other recent books include “BodyWorld” and “Bottomless Belly Button.” His animated works include the Sigur Ros video “Seraph”, “Wheel of Fortune”, and the ifc series “The Unclothed Man in the 35th Century AD.” His new graphic novels “Doctors”, and “COSPLAYERS” are now available from Fanatagraphics Books. He lives in Brooklyn, New York. You can check out more of what he’s up to at dashshaw.tumblr.com.
