You must have heard about the term Data Science in a few recent years, but ever wondered what it really is and why is it suddenly the next big thing?

Back in the early 2000s, computer engineering and working in IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Apple, etc. were the hot occupations. But today Data Science is the term companies are looking forward to hiring. Today, in the modern world with the increase in digitalization and modernness of the working culture, there is a lot of information, raw data, which is lying around and needs to be analyzed to get a better understanding of what needs to be improved for the betterness of the society or the better future of the company. Everything you see, work is producing the data. Whether we are working for ourselves or innovating, data will be the epitome of everything. Today data is used in every sector, let it be finance, healthcare, business, education, etc.

This sudden appearance reflects the fact that companies are struggling with the modernization and processing of the amount of data coming with it which led us (data scientists)

Big companies, and industries in today’s world are solely dependent on data-driven insights to have a clear path for day-to-day operations. This data helps them improve, and come up with new products, and insights that are satisfied with their customer’s expectations.

“Information is the oil if the 21st century,

and analytics is the combustion engine”

But what is the Job of a data scientist?

In a simple sentence, Data scientists gather, organize and manage the unstructured data and prepare it for practical use for the organization. This data helps the organization to produce the outcome that benefits them.

Data Scientists float with the pool of data around them, they bring a proper structured method to cruise around them. Much like the term engineer, data science can be an amalgamation of maths, statistics, and coding.

Now Wondering what it takes to pursue this path?

Before jumping into this, it is important to know that just because it’s a new thing to go for doesn’t mean you need to jump right off into this. Currently, none of these are straightforward compared to other established roles.

To start with, there are very few universities in India that offer data science degrees because it is still a mystery to many, how data scientists can be an asset to their company and at what level their role can be measured.

But the real problem is, are we the ones whom they should hire, do I have the right skill?

The field of data science is changing drastically, not just the academic skills but one must also be a business-oriented problem solver. One must be curious to learn something new every day with the unstructured data they receive.

In today’s world, organizations don’t just hire people based on their analytical or statistical skills, but on their solid foundations in maths, probability, computer science languages such as python, java, R, SQL, and many more. From simple sales predictions to big financial decisions require data scientists. With Machine learning and predictive analytics skills, you can stand out from others.

Big companies like Microsoft, Swiggy, Goldman Sachs, Byju’s, Cognizant, Facebook, and Amazon are looking to hire a perfect man who can make their job easier.

Today, the average pay of a data scientist is INR 9,00,000, whereas a normal computer engineer is paid INR 4,50,000. That’s how much data scientists are prioritized nowadays.

Today the applications in every sector are so immense that the need is going to be endless. By 2022 there still will be a need for more than 27,20,000 data scientists and analysts. By 2030 Data Scientist jobs will increase about 22%, which is much quicker than other occupations in computer science.

The increasing demand for Data Scientists and analytics does not mean that the job will be easy, but with the proper skill set, knowledge, and love for data this will be the right thing to do. Data science may be the coolest job of the 21st century, but if you do not know how to use it and work with people who do, you’re just collecting a meaningless set of data.

With a proper roadmap you’ll be able to achieve what you want and try to keep working hard every day for it until you achieve it, most of the time you’ll question yourself but don’t let those distractions lose you. Believe in yourself.
