Hello World!

Attribute this to a Pavlovian compulsion. Or just a general Bad habit to use the template expression while opening a new chapter, or writing a new Story. Rhetorics aside, how I wish to tell you that this story of ours was written by an amazingly developed in-house AI. Story for some other day, but we have certainly kicked off a few really interesting projects. Hello (again) *give yourself a clap if you get the reference! Developer Student Club of Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata was set up in 2018 with the sole aim of inculcating students with the right sense of purpose and equipping them with a set of tools to fulfill their vision — from creating a social networking site (we all had this dream in a post-The Social Network era) to eradicating poverty and combating Global Warming.

At DSC Heritage, it is really all about chasing your dreams and helping others chase their own. However, with a tectonic shift in the Positions, the transition has not really been as smooth as one would have expected. There were Ego clashes, there were roadblocks, there was the lingering sense of Uncertainty. But as and when we kickstarted and put our campaign back on track, the momentum and position blurred the problems into the looping impossibility of a Quantum bit. In the last month, we went ahead a few ahead, we took a few back, but in the midst of all these — we formed the Core Team, with each member taking over a certain discipline/Track and honing themselves so that they can, in turn, impart the knowledge in further members of the community.

Highlights :

We finalized the Process to incorporate DSC as an official club of the college. We started off with a community of 150+ enthusiastic members. We planned the DSC Orientation Session — Session Zero which would hopefully happen in the forthcoming week, and if all goes according to plan, We will additionally be hosting a Hackathon in campus soon.

Besides the regular training and mentoring sessions with the existing members in Web and Cloud Study Jams, we tied up with GirlScript Summer of Code to facilitate and maintain one of the Projects that would be really helpful to both communities at large, as well as we have a few more exciting news to offer. Stay tuned to this space for more.

The Nays :

There were a few roadblocks, and the thing we do best is moving on, leaving them behind. Because looking into legacy code only throws up more bugs. So if it just works, don’t touch it. Don’t try to figure out the past. if it gets annoying, comment it out.

This is hopefully the first of many… Until next time. May the force be with you!
