DSC JSSATEN Google Cloud Crash Course winners

My DSC JSSATEN journey as a lead started on January 2019. It was lot overwhelming at first considering the fact I had no idea how to run a society and also at that time I was wondering what’s wrong with Google Developers why they selected me “an introvert”. Cut two 18 months later I can’t be thankful enough to the team and to Google Developers of course.

Few of the difficulties that we faced initially was that very few people knew about DSC on my campus which kinda bumped us out a few times as we were putting a lot of hard word in delivering good content. Our first workshop was on Android Development and about 30 people showed up. Another problem that we faced was support from college for our events. There was so many time we weren’t able to conduct workshops because we were given just an hour to wrap up things. But the aim was to make my local community receive all the benefits that we could offer.

The team that made it all happen

Never the less we came a long way in these 18 months we organised numerous workshops including Android Development, Machine Learning, Google AI ExploreML, Google Cloud, Web Development, Designing, Competetive Programming, Git and GitHub etc. We on an average delivered 2 workshops every month. The aim of the team was to deliver as much content as possible to the community so they get a fair idea about all the technologies and could select their career path accordingly.

From having 30 participants in our first workshop to getting overcrowded in our last workshop we came a long way. We trained over 2000+ students both on and off-campus in these 18 months. In our Google Cloud Crash Course Program, we had more than 600+ registrations from all over India. Dealing with all the queries was a big task for a team of the size of 15–20 students.

We also developed apps for the community to help bridge the gap between technology and people. One of our most popular apps was Udhaari. An app that can be used by vendors, merchants to keep track of people who borrow stuff with minimal manual intervention. Here is a snapshot about our story of community impact which was published on official DSC OMG media handles:

Since we are talking about DSC OMG now, let me tell you a little more DSC OMG was organised by all the DSC Leads from across India. I also got a chance to speak at the event. From a guy who barely talks to a stranger to someone who is sharing the screen with top technology experts from Google. I mean it’s an achievement for me I guess.

This journey couldn’t end without mentioning India summit. All the leads from India were invited by Google Developers at Leela Resort, Goa for 3 days summit. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience. We met googlers, played sports on the beach, learned more about technology etc. I also went to Google Developers Group Delhi DevFest where I got the chance to speak as well.

Apart from all this, we organised a few internal workshops for core team members. The idea was to make sure the team is well informed with the technologies. Many of the new recruits found their mentors in our team which made them achieve even greater heights.

We also organised coding games at our college fest. The best one being Line-Up, where we randomly divided all the participants into a team and the goal for everyone was to find their squad. The only clue that they had was a GPS enabled app which only tells whether the other team member is nearby or not. This year we created an event management app themed like a music player . You can check it out here.

There are still so many things that are left out to mention here but let’s keep it till here. Even if we want to make a list of all the things we have achieved in this one and a half year. I am sure we will always forget a few as there are so many.

All well that ends well. My journey with DSC JSSATEN ends here. This story is just written by me but the achievements are of the team, not mine. We all worked hard for 18 months and we accomplished so much. All credit goes to the team of DSC JSSATEN.
