Good First Issue
On 30th October, 2020 (Friday) a webinar Good First Issue on Open Source Contributions was conducted by Developer Student Club DDU on the Google Meet platform.
The lead speakers were Utsav Parmar and Hardik Bagada, core committee members. They started by introducing themselves and making the audience comfortable even with the virtual platform constraint.
Utsav, kick-started the webinar by answering the basic what, why, questions regarding Open Source. This was followed by an introduction to git and GitHub.
After that he started with the First Contribution Steps, all the go to steps needed to be followed while working on an Open Source project were explained using fun gifs to create an amicable environment. He gave detailed explanations for every step during the entire process. Along with that he also communicated with the audience and explained the importance of Open Source and all the topics related to the same.
Further, the webinar was handed over to Hardik who started by talking about various VSCode extensions. He enlightened the audience about programs that add value to one’s open-source software, the most awaited segment. In the end information on Google summer of code, MLH Fellowship, etc… was given. The ardent speakers tried to make the talk interactive by involving the audience throughout the webinar.
The session ended with all the comrades talking about the mistakes they made when they started their Open Source journey. The audience enjoyed the session so did the speakers. This motivated DSC to take up more events.
