Have you ever wanted to create a 3 object and have it printed through the Digital Scholarship Lab but you just did not know how?

Well look no further! We will take you step by step through the process of 3D printing here.

Some Platforms That You Can Use to Create Your Own Designs:

  • Platform that has some built in features to help with the design process.

If you don’t want to create a custom design you can print off ready made ones at websites like the one listed below.

Step 1

You want to make sure that you have a design that is ready and completed for us to print.

If you need some guidance on how to 3D print visit our previous blog article (listed below) on how to 3D print using platforms such as onShape.

Some important things to note when using onshape:

Like stated above — create an account! It’s easy and free! Just enter your name, email, and password.

The link to the website is: https://www.onshape.com

To get started on your new project hit the Create icon on the top left corner of your screen. Then hit Document. Name your new document and you are on your way to creating an awesome design!

Also make sure that the dimensions are what you desired the final project to be. If it is different you can always add it to the Notes section when submitting your request.

Step 2:

Next you will want to submit your request through the DSL website : https://www.marquette.edu/library/digital-scholarship/index.php

If you go to our home page this screen pops up. You will want to click the 3D printing button.

Read the guidelines for important information like cost and details you may need to add. Once you are done and scroll down, hit the “submit your print here” button.

Step 3:

Enter in answers for the prompted questions and be sure to add any additional information needed.

  • You will want to enter a “.stl” file and make sure it is no bigger than 25MB.

Once this is done you are good to go and you will get an email when your project is ready for pickup!
