How many times during the semester do you find yourself forgetting a charger, dongle, or mouse for your computer?

Well, fear not, the Digital Scholarship Lab has all of that and more to offer to current Marquette students or staff. We also have a few items that alumni can use as well.

This winter break the DS Lab added several new items to our ever-growing collection. The majority of the new items are related to USB-C and using a computer with only a USB-C connection, as well as a few other fun things. Here is a list of all the new items that were added this semester:

• USB-C cell phone charger

• USB-C MacBook charger

• USB-C to HDMI/VGA connector

• USB-C Hub with SD card slots

• Universal PC chargers

• Wireless mouse

All of these new items are available to check out for 4 hours, and yes, you can take them out of the Library. They just need to be brought back to the DS Lab desk before their time due. You can also recheck out items if you need to use them for a little bit more. (Just don’t forget if you do bring them back late, you will be fined for that. Items are fined at $1 for every hour late, per item, for hourly items. $2 per day late per item for daily checkouts.)

We also have some underappreciated items you might not even know we hold!

For those photography buffs, we do have a few different options for you. The lab offers 3 mirrorless Sony cameras. They all come with a 15–60mm zoom lens with auto-focus, and are great cameras for those looking to do some basic photography.

We also have a Canon 80D DSLR camera with an 18–135mm lens. They’re the similar if not the same camera that most vlogs use. The 80D is an excellent camera, and it can record video as well as take still photography. To check out the 80D you will need to have a brief consultation with one of the DSLab full-time staff members to go over how to use the camera. That means the camera is only available for check out Monday through Fridays during regular business hours.

Last, we’ve got the GoPro (two of them!). GoPro is an action camera that can go almost anywhere. If you are hoping to get some cool action shots from your point of view, this is the camera that you want to use. Both of the cameras come with a head strap so you can use it while still having your hands free. We also have a selfie-stick that has an attachment for the GoPro.

All of the cameras have 3-day loan periods, and like all the equipment in the lab, it is first-come, first-served. You can check the status of any DSL item right here!
