almost every woman I have ever met has a secret belief that she is just on the edge of madness — because we cannot bear the things we crave (we are not allowed.)

as a child the world told me that a woman should never forget that whatever else she is, she is also an object. (i will not allow to world to teach my child the same.)

girls don’t just go out of their minds for the fun of it. they’re driven there by people in their lives who should’ve known better. (we’re not mentally ill, we’re hysterical. what a load of — )

all women speak the language of silent suffering. (every woman i know bears pain so silently — a lifetime of hurt hidden with a placating smile, a soft reassurance.)

what happens to women who subvert this control? (the general answer is murder. again, and again, and again. well, at least if i die young people will find my corpse tragically beautiful. what the f — )
