Beyond Myself

Sometimes I think poetry is

just another outlet to escape from my depression

or a medium for self expression

but I’m not always myself in poems.

I put on a mask and become

someone new. I could be

a honey bee, working myself to death

only to be replaced as soon as

I fall or I could be Icarus, in love with a god,

but falling into another or

even a blade of grass soaking up the

sun I couldn’t reach before.

Poems let me disappear
