For those New or Still Adjusting to Vampires

Vamp2
[Duel Links] A Guide to Playing Vampires
2 min readNov 11, 2018

The current meta for vampire capitalizes on Vampire Grace’s ability to proc Vampire Kingdom for board removal. Thus, the focus of most vampire decks is to play Vampire Grace ASAP with Vampire Kingdom for backrow removal that would ensure safe attacks against enemy monsters and your opponent’s life points.

Basic Combos:

Turn 1: Samurai Skull/Gozuki → Vampire Retainer → Vampire Familiar → Vampire Takeover

Turn 2: Samurai Skull/Gozuki → Vampire Retainer→ Vampire’s Domain →Vampire Familiar → Vampire Grace → Vampire Kingdom

Turn 2: Samurai Skull/Gozuki → Vampire Grace → Vampire Desire → Vampire Grace → Samurai Skull/Gozuki → Vampire Kingdom

Advanced Combos:

Turn 1: Samurai Skull/Gozuki → Vampire Vamp → Vampire Takeover

Turn 2: Vampire Retainer → Vampire’s Domain→ Vampire Grace → Vampire Retainer → any Vampire card → Vampire Kingdom

Turn 2: Vampire Retainer → Vampire Desire → Vampire Familiar

For those new to the climb or are still getting used to ranked:

  • 20-Card Deck: With Vampires, it’s best to keep the 20-card standard. Vampires don’t get as much value from adding cards over the 20-card line like Spellbook decks. Consistency is your best friend. Having consistently more strong opening hands seem to guarantee more wins in duel links. Note: The only other way to extend your deck to 24 cards is to use Gozuki, Spherekuriboh, or another very high-value competitive card.
  • 2nd Gozuki: take it from someone who’ve KoG-ed from both ends of having and not having a 2nd Gozuki. Gozuki has no substitutable equal and its closest would be a fourth samurai skill if such was even allowed.
  • Don’t give up: due to the immense possibilities vampires have with their card cycling, a seemingly hopeless board or hand may indeed be hiding a play that would turn your game around. Keep calm and see if there are any combos or chains that you can pull off by looking at your graveyard and hand first.

Up to Legend 1 Tips:

  • Knowing your basic combos will get you around Platinum 1.
  • Around here you will need to be attentive to major spell/trap cards that make up the most competitive plays.
