Dundealgan AC’s Israel Olatunde will represent Ireland at next month’s European Youth Olympics which will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan from July 20th-28th.

The former Marist student, who finished his Leaving Cert recently, has been selected to run in the 100m and is also part of the Medley Relay panel.

The 19-year-old made his international debut for Ireland in the 100m at last year’s European’s U18 Championships in Hungary where he made the semi-finals.

Israel has been in fine form this year. In January, he set a new Irish U18 60m record at the U20 and U23 Indoor Championships in Athlone, winning in a blistering time of 6.84m.

He backed that up at the National Juvenile Indoor Athletics Championships in March where he won gold in the U18 60m and bronze in the U18 200m.

Wearing his Marist colours, Israel won 100m bronze in a time of 10.77 seconds at the All-Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships in June, achieving the standard for the Youth Olympics in Azerbaijan.
