A number of youngsters from St Gerard’s AC braved the testing conditions at the Louth Cross Country Championships for uneven ages, hosted by Ace AC in Termonfeckin.

Due to the horrendous weather, the course could be — at best — described as very, very testing but the first medal of the day wasn’t long in arriving with Caolan McKinnon finishing third in the boys U9 event. In the girls U9, Èire McCrystal and Holly Phelan also ran impressive races with both winning medals.

St Gerard’s was very well represented in the girls' U11 section on the day with Sadie Murphy taking a fantastic silver medal while the girls' team stormed to a second-place finish aswell. The team consisted of Sadie Murphy, Anna Duffy, Chloe Cheshire, Aideen Cumiskey, Cara Miele, Lily McClean and Holly Grant.

Running solo in the boys' U11 race, Ben Eccles did exceptionally well in a very tough event. Adam Eccles and Hayden Mulholland were the club’s sole representatives in the boys U13 race where both ran very well-judged races.

Doireann Conlon ran a barnstorming race in the girls U13, narrowly missing out on a medal with a fourth-place finish but the team, consisting of Doireann, Tara O’Connor, Abaigh Moonan, Ellie McVeigh, Atene Ambraziejus and Katie Grant won a very well-deserved bronze thanks to a third-place finish.

Leah Miele, Amy Toal and Dearbhiile Lennon ran well in the girls' U15 race, as did Leah Mooney in the girls U17. She finished in sixth place while Conor Toal was seventh in the boys U17 equivalent.

The club would like to thank cross country coaches Colette Woods Miele and Stephen Mulholland for all their hard work in preparing the athletes for the cross country season.
