LADIES GAA | Geraldines’ brilliant year continues as they add Minor Championship to the sideboard
Cooley, Roche and Pat’s all book their place in league finals
Just weeks after winning the Louth Senior Ladies Championship title for the first time, the Geraldines added a maiden Minor Championship trophy to the club’s collection with a win over Ardee St Mary’s on Saturday.
In an enthralling game of football in Philipstown, the Gers showed great courage and determination to overturn a late two-point deficit and win the game by a single point, 2–16 to 5–6.
In the Minor Shield final that preceded it, the combination of St Mochtas/St Brides beat Naomh Mairtin/Glen Emmets in another high scoring encounter, 5–8 to 4–5.
Elsewhere, Cooley Kickhams booked their place in the Division One League final with a 2–15 to 1–11 win over St Mochtas in Louth Village on Sunday afternoon.
Leading 0–7 to 0–5 at the break, the peninsula side pulled away in the second half with Lauren Boyle (2–7), Niamh Rice (0–3), Eibhlin Rice (0–3) and Megan Ferguson (0–2) all on the scoresheet. They will meet the Geraldines in a repeat of the Senior Championship final.
In Division Two, St Patrick’s will meet Roche Emmets in the final looking to complete a league and championship double.
The intermediate champions saw off Clan na Gael on the Ecco Road on Sunday morning, running out 4–10 to 2–4 winners, while Roche booked their place in the decider with a convincing 1–12 to 0–4 win over Naomh Fionnbarra.
