McAlester’s slipped from the top of the Dundalk Pool League Division 2B table on Monday night as The Nest caused an upset on Bridge Street by winning their first game of the 2019 season.

The home team got off to the best possible start when Sean Kavanagh marked his return with a win over John McEvoy but Paul Mulholland soon levelled the scores when he beat Gavin Neary, only for McAlester’s to go back in front when Joe Doherty beat Martin McDonagh.

With two excellent finishes, Hughie McDonagh beat Liam Quinn to send the match to a decider and Darren Clarke recovered from losing the first frame to beat Thomas Murphy and lift the Nest off the bottom of the table.

That opened the door for Ferguson’s Black to take over at the top and they did so in convincing fashion with a 5–0 win at home to McGuinness’, losing just one frame in the process. The winners for Ferguson’s were Jim Lyons, Kevin Rogan, Jim McKevitt, Ryan Sherry and Raymond Ferguson.

Elsewhere in Division 2B, Avenue Blaze overtook Uncle Tom’s Heroes in third place with a 4–1 win in the Avenue Inn. John McQuillan recovered from losing the opening frame to beat Bradley Duffy in the opening frame and the hosts doubled their lead when captain Joe Lee beat Eoin Farrell.

The visitors reduced the deficit when Darren McArdle beat Sid Connolly but the Blaze completed the victory when Danny Carr beat Gerry McArdle Jr and they also gained a bonus point when Andy Gray beat Shane McArdle 2–1.

Ciaran Crawley of Ferguson’s Red

In Division 2A, Sean’s Tavern picked up a vital win to move within a point of Cluskey’s. The visitors got off to a great start when Ken Mulholland beat Seamus Conroy and Kevin Cusker then beat Damien Callan.

The hosts got back into the game when James King played some superb pool to beat Tony O’Hare and the scores were soon level when Aidan Lambe beat Niall Clifford but Peter Duffy was the hero for Sean’s Tavern, beating Kenneth Conroy to complete a 3–2 win.

Third-placed Sean’s Warriors put a dent in Ferguson Red’s title hopes with a 4–1 win in Dundalk. The visitors took an early lead when Ciaran Crawley beat Owen Myles but Ciaran Lee levelled the scores when he recovered from losing the opening frame to beat Martin Bashford.

Sean’s went back in front when Keith Gorham continued his good run of form to beat Damien Connor and Colin Gray beat Shane McElroy in the next to seal the victory for the hosts and they gained a bonus point when Jemmy McGee beat Johnny Jennings.
