Alan Wilton in action for Avenue Rovers

The new Dundalk Pool League campaign got underway last Monday night with a total of 21 teams in action across two divisions.

Four new teams — The Lumpers, The Nest, McAlester’s and Uncle Tom’s — have joined the league this season and the Ravensdale outfit got off to a flyer in their Division One opener at home to the Castle Bar Revolution.

Jamie Lavelle beat Julio Cesar to put the hosts ahead but Paul Byrne restored parity when he beat All Ireland junior champion Peter O’Hagan only for Aidan Kinsella to put the Lumpers back in front with a win over Bryan Crowe.

The consistent David McQuillan made took the game to a decider when he beat Richie McGee but Barry Keane was the hero for the Lumpers when he recovered from losing the opening frame to beat Colin Byrne 2–1 in the decider and get the new boys off to a great start.

Commercial Classico’s 4–1 Uncle Tom’s

Elsewhere in Division One, Uncle Tom’s travelled to play the Commercial Classico’s but were set back to Blackrock on the wrong end of a 4–1 scoreline. Dominic O’Connor beat Barry Soraghan to put the host 1–0 ahead and they doubled their lead when Martin Ferrigan beat Kevin Soraghan.

Uncle Tom’s needed to stop the rot in the third frame but Michael Ralph beat Alan Reenan to completed the victory for the Classico’s and Aaron Callan made it 4–0 when he beat Brendan Reenan before the visitors finally got on the scoreboard when Kieran Grimes beat Justin McArdle in the final game.

Castle Bar 2–3 Avenue Stars

Castle Bar entertained the Avenue Stars but it was the visitors who left with the points after securing a 3–2 win.

Brian McGuire beat Maddy Hoey to put the Stars ahead but the scores were soon level when Stephen McBride beat Paddy Tavey. Harvey Lavelle restored the lead for the Avenue side when he beat Liam Johnson but Tiernan Mallon set up a deciding frame when he beat Paddy Clarke.

In the decider, Seamus McGeogeghan recovered from losing the opening frame to beat Dermot Connolly, completing a 3–2 win for Avenue Stars.

Avenue Rovers 5–0 Harry’s Bar

In the final Division One game of the night, Avenue Rovers recorded a whitewash against Harry’s Bar.

Declan Brady beat Michael Riddock in the opener before Alan Wilton eventually beat Tommy O’Hare. The points were in the bag when John Dugdale beat Pat Jackson and Pat Brady and Stephen Gorham beat Martin Hayes and Don O’Brien respectively to complete the rout.
