Division One league leaders Avenue Rovers maintained their 100% start to the Dundalk Pool League season with a 3–2 win over Uncle Tom’s Cream on Monday night.

The visitors started well with Damien Carberry inflicting a first loss of the season on John Dugdale but the scores were soon level when Alan Wilton recorded two superb clearances to beat Sean McGorian.

The respective captains, Pat Brady and Paul Kearney, faced off in the third frame and when Paul failed to pot a tricky black, Pat cleared the table to take the lead. The match was soon level when Paul broke and cleared the table but Pat broke and cleared the table the decider to put Rovers 2–0 ahead.

Ger Cunningham took it to a deciding frame when he beat Stephen Gorham but Alan Thompson beat David Quinn to complete a 3–2 victory for Avenue Rovers and keep them three points clear of the chasing pack.

Elsewhere, Castle Bar Baize remain in trouble at the wrong end of the table after suffering a 4–1 loss away to fifth-placed Uncle Tom’s. The Blackrock boys started brightly with Brendan Reenan beating Maddy Hoey but the scores were soon level when Stephen McBride played some superb pool to see off Barry Soraghan.

Gerry Reenan put the hosts back in front when he beat Tiernan Mallon and Uncle Tom’s secured the three points when Jimmy Reenan beat Paul Ruane before Kevin Soraghan also gained a bonus point for his team when he beat Dermot Connolly.

The Avenue Stars remain hot on the heels of their stablemates Avenue Rovers after a convincing win over the Castle Bar Revolution in Seatown. Brian McGuire put the visitors in front when he beat Colin Byrne and they doubled their lead when Paddy Tavey had an excellent 2–0 win over David McQuillan.

Bryan Crowe got the hosts on the scoreboard when he beat Michael Sheenan only for Paddy Clarke to seal the victory with a win over Paul Byrne. Seamus McGeogeghan also gained a bonus point for the Stars when he beat Julio Cesar to complete a 4–1 win.

Meanwhile, in Division 2B, league leaders Ferguson’s Black had a hard-fought 3–2 victory away to Uncle Tom’s Heroes. The winners for Ferguson’s were Tony McGrath, Kevin Rogan and Raymond Ferguson with Darren McArdle and Bradley Duffy replying for Uncle Tom’s.

The Nest’s resurgence also continued this week with a 3–2 win over McGuinness’. Martin and Hughie McDonagh, along with Joe McEvoy, were on target for the winners with Shane Fee and Jordan Mackin’s efforts in vain for the Anne Street crew.

Second-placed Avenue Blaze also ran out 4–1 winners at home to McAlester’s. The winners for the Blaze were Gerry Joyce, Danny Carr, John McQuillan and Sid Connolly. Michael McAlester was the lone scorer for the visitors when he beat Blaze captain Joe Lee.
