The Dundalk RFC U14 girls team was in action for the first time this season, winning all five of their games at a six-team north-east blitz in Navan at the weekend

Dundalk got off to a great start, beating North Meath 5–0 in their opening game thanks to a superb try from Sophie Malone and they backed that up with a 12–10 win over a well-drilled Navan side in their second outing.

The Mill Road side gave as good as they got with Anna Dawson and Nicola Campbell both scoring tries and, in the end, it was a conversion from Dawson that made the difference as Dundalk ran out 12–10 winners.

The third game saw Dundalk really get into their stride with a 20–0 win over Skerries. A great team performance ended with tries from Sophie Malone, Anna Dawson, Ruby Greene and Nichola Malone as Skerries just weren’t allowed into the game.

The final two games of the day saw Dundalk beat Virginia 14–10 and Ashbourne 14–7. Both were hard-won matches with Dundalk showing some real flair in attack and discipline in defence.

A clean sweep of the competition ensures Dundalk a place in Division One for the season ahead where they will no doubt be tested even further, however, based on the fine team performance, and the fabulous individual displays from the weekend, coaches Matt Dawson and Rod Coan are pretty sure they will rise to the challenge.
