L-R: Rebekah Friel, Amy McEvoy, Eliza Logan and Kate Delany display their five medals for St Vincent’s Secondary School at the Leinster Senior School Swimming Championships

Amy McEvoy, Eliza Logan, Kate Delany and Rebekah Friel all swam a sensational 200m Medley Relay at the Leinster Senior School Championships in the National Aquatic Centre on Sunday last to secure a silver medal for St Vincent’s secondary school.

On a brilliant day for the local school, the same quartet also secured bronze in the 200m Freestyle Relay and there was also individual success for Rebekah who landed silver in the 400m Freestyle and Eliza and Kate who both took bronze in the 100m Free and 100m Fly events respectively.

Amy, Eliza and Rebekah are all members of Aura Dundalk Swim Club (ADSC) while Kate swims for the Aer Lingus team in Dublin.

In the Leinster Minor Schools Championship, Conor Goss took over two seconds off his Personal Best time in the 50m Backstroke to also take silver for St Fursey’s National School in Haggardstown. Conor also recorded a new PB in the 100m Individual Medley.

Bronagh Harmon of St Mochtas, Louth Village also posted two PBs in the 50m Free and 50m Fly events while Maebh Mullen of Scoil Dairbhre finished in eighth place in the 50m Backstroke, knocking a second off her PB.

There were more impressive displays by Aura Dundalk swimmers throughout the day. Swimming for Ardee Community School, Alex Lapko secured a top-six finish in the 100m Fly and was ninth in the 100m Backstroke, knocking over four seconds off his Personal Best in both events. Evelyn Donnelly from Bush Secondary School was also in the top 10 in her 100m Breaststroke event.

Representing Coláiste Ris, Patrick Harmon narrowly missed out on a podium finish when he took fourth place in the 100m Breaststroke and was also in the top 10 in the 200m Individual Medley. Eoin Harmon, also representing Coláiste Ris, put in strong performances in the 400m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke. Dundalk Grammar School’s Faye O’Rourke and Sadhbh Mullen (14) also swam superbly in the 100m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke events.

There was a strong showing from ex-ADSC member David Coyle of Belvedere College in his 100 Freestyle, 200 Individual Medley and 400m Freestyle events and more medal success came the town’s way when Dundalk Grammar School’s Harry Winston took silver in the 100m Backstroke.
