Four members of local Thai Boxing club ‘Dundalk Thai’ made the trek down to Cork last weekend for an intensive training programme where they became certified in Muay Thai sports specific CPR and First Aid.

Access to such a specialised course became available to David Byrne, Brian Gallagher, Rob Stewart and Jay Brady as the club has recently joined the Irish Muay Thai Council.

This not only gives Dundalk Thai access to sanctioned traditional Muay Thai events but also provides members with an opportunity to showcase their skills on the international stage.

Members of the Dundalk club are now eligible for selection as part of the National Irish Team in prestigious events such as the European Championships which are being held in Paris, France later this year.

The Irish Muay Thai Council is part of the world governing body, the World Muay Thai Council, which is actively campaigning for formal Olympics recognition.

The local club trains three times a week, Monday and Wednesday in the Dundalk Combat Academy, and Friday in Apex Gym. Details can be found on the club’s Facebook page here.
