The Mannan Castle Golf Club Captain’s Drive-In was held recently where a great crowd came out to see Captain Thomas Gartlan and Lady Captain Esther Durcan arrive in a beautiful 1947 Rover, chauffer driven by owner Frank McNally.

The weather hadn’t been great in the days leading up to the Drive-In but just as the captains arrived, the rain stopped, the winds died down and the clouds parted as both captains hit drives befitting the occasion.

The format for that weekend was a Four Ball Scramble and despite the testing conditions, there were some great scores recorded.

First place went to the team of Gerry Califf, Andy Coffey, Eugene Molloy and Laura Corr while second place was Andrew Sweetnam, John Bourke, Tommy Hoey and Louise Hanratty.

Last weekend was the Capaldi Cup which was played in beautiful conditions that couldn’t be more contrasting than the previous weekend.

The man who came out on top with 40 points was Nigel O’Neill who beat Patsy Hoey on the countback. Val Donoghue was third with 39 points. This weekend’s competition is kindly sponsored by Micron Engineering, Dundalk.
