Over the last two years, Dune Network has built a great thing: a dedicated community of ambassadors, bakers, developers and investors supporting an advanced blockchain technology focusing on safety, security and accessibility. That was a huge success. Yet, the Dune Network project is a small and dynamic project surrounded by giants, within which even our best contributions have difficulties to be visible.

Recently, we started discussing with another, bigger but as dynamic project, FreeTON, with a similar focus on applications, but also on performance and decentralization. FreeTON has a already matured technology, inherited from the open-sourcing of the TON project, with dynamic sharding, immediate finality and efficient smart-contract execution allowing thousands of transactions per second. FreeTON also pushes online governance further, with a complete decentralized way of funding its own software and business development through contests.

It appeared to us that the two projects were complementary, and would both benefit from joining forces, to become a giant among other giants. We thus wrote a proposal to merge both networks, that would be submitted on both chains for vote.

Key elements of the proposal are:

  • The Dune Network accounts will be merged into the FreeTON blockchain after the development of a swapper between the two blockchains;
  • The swap ratio has been defined using a 3-month average on CMC, resulting into 50.3 DUN for 1 TON Crystal. Only the dev team tokens (Origin Labs) will be vested over 16 months.
  • The Dune Network community will be onboarded into the FreeTON community: Dune bakers will have the opportunity to become FreeTON validators, Dune ambassadors to become FreeTON ambassadors and Dune developers to contribute to the FreeTON ecosystem with their experience of tooling and formal methods.

More information is available in the transcript of the AMA that happened on Sunday January 17, 2021 on the subject.

Both blockchains will have to agree on this proposal. For Dune Network, we have developed the smart contract and website for the on-chain vote, that will happen between block 721,000 (around Tuesday January 26, 2021 around 4pm CET) and block 731,000 (around Tuesday February 2, 2021 around 3pm CET). Roll-owners (bakers) will be able to vote on the following site, using the Metal browser extension or following the command-line instructions: https://dune.network/vote-dapp

Following the vote, if a majority of stake is positive, a protocol upgrade will happen in the next weeks to prepare for the merge.

Stay Duned!
