A day in the life of… Vicki Keenan, Outbound Product Manager, London
Meet Vicki and learn more about her role as Outbound Product Manager for our Shop on Lab product.
I’m responsible for…being a Subject Matter Expert for one of our products, Shop on Lab, supporting our established UK and Asian markets and working closely with new markets launching Shop on Lab.
I’m also Development Lead for the Outbound Product Team, working with the Product and Development teams on improving Shop on Lab through enhancements and ensuring it is fit for purpose through end-user testing.
Shop on Lab is a dunnhumby web-based business tool for easy, self-serve access to a vast range of Customer insights relevant to both retailers and brand owners.
How I got the role…I discovered dunnhumby through its partnership with the university where I did my MSc and I was instantly drawn to the company and the world of customer data science. When I graduated in 2014, I started in the dunnhumby Ireland Commercial Team as a Client Lead working with CPG clients and Tesco. Throughout my three years in this team, I was also Ireland’s Shop Champ and led the launch of Shop on Lab in Ireland.
My enthusiasm for and commitment to Shop sparked me to seek a role in the global Shop on Lab Product Team, and in 2017 I achieved this and moved to London to start my career in Technology Product and Solutions.
What is a typical day like for you…There is never a dull day, that’s for sure! From providing support and managing projects in person or on Microsoft Teams, calls and via email. I am constantly communicating with people and markets all over the world, as close as London to as far away as China and Chile.
Best part of the job…The exposure to so many different people and areas of the business and the continuous opportunities available to get involved in some of dunnhumby’s largest and most exciting initiatives.
Outside of work I love to…spend time with family and friends. It can be as exciting as a foreign trip or as simple as a chat on the couch; to me, it’s all about the people I am with.
My advice for others interested in a career in data and technology…Go for it! With the way the world is going, it’s the place to be. A fast-paced and constantly evolving environment, data and technology is where you have the opportunity to be at the forefront of some of today’s biggest changes and evolutions along with the scope to carve out your own path.
What makes working at dunnhumby different…The people. Many of my closest friends are people I have come to know through dunnhumby and these friendships have withstood company, role, and location moves on both sides.
Favourite podcast…I’m a big podcast fan and listen to one any chance I get. My two clear favourites are My Favourite Murder which highlights my fascination with True Crime, and The Blindboy Podcast hosted by an Irish musician and author who discusses a range of topics with intelligence, humour, and sometimes absurdity.
