Dvision Network has officially integrated NFT.Storage to preserve data in a decentralized manner via IPFS and Filecoin🔥
The Dvision Network is an ultimate blockchain-based NFT metaverse platform. The Dvision Network establishes a cutting-edge metaverse ecosystem, by utilizing its own VR technology, that helps to lower the entry barriers for all types of users across the globe. Therefore, it allows designers, enterprises and general users to dive into the most advanced metaverse experience.
Dear community members,
We are thrilled to announce, that Dvision has decentralized its data storage and management by taking all NFTs metadata in the metaverse into the ecosystem of the Protocol Labs. From now on, the NFT data will be securely stored in NFT.Storage, which is linked to IPFS and stored by Filecoin. Utilizing IPFS will enable users to directly link their content and with Filecoin, data such as NFT content will be stored in a strong cryptographically verifiable manner thereby making the data more resilient and uncompromisable. Overall, the NFT.Storage API combines the power of IPFS and Filecoin to meet the specific needs of the Web 3.0 metaverse vehicle presented by Dvision Network.
The integration of NFT.Storage in Dvision Network
The NFT market is growing rapidly with its trading volume currently standing at 40 billion USD however its technology is still a work in progress. Since the NFT space is still quite early, it still lacks the robust systems for it to be a true method of proving digital ownership and authenticity.
More specifically, we are referring to the critical need for decentralized data protection and storage being common practice for NFT metadata. For reference, the overall trading volume of Dvision NFTs (LANDs, ITEMs) surpassed the 20 million USD across different platforms, and it becomes critical to ensure the safety of the offchain data that is reflected in our NFTs. To prevent malicious attacks and progress into being more of a trustless ecosystem we are integrating with NFT.Storage as it is the next step towards the further decentralization.
To further elaborate, we can take a look at the creator of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, about the evils of centralization in game items/characters.
I happily played World of Warcraft during 2007–2010, but one day Blizzard removed the damage component from my beloved warlock’s Siphon Life spell. I cried myself to sleep, and on that day I realized what horrors centralized services can bring. I soon decided to quit. — Vitalik Buterin.
NFTs are considered a revolutionary technology for games because it proves ownership of an item that the game developers cannot control. This means that if Vitalik was to own an NFT of his Warlock containing its spells/data, it would have prevented the game developers from nerfing or in the worst of cases deleting his character. This was one of the promises made about NFTs, however in reality this is not the case because the majority of NFT are not stored or pinned using NFT.Storage.This leads us to conclude that if the data is not stored in a decentralized manner and addressed by IPFS, what’s the use?
In reality, the majority of NFT are stored in a centralized manner, making it not much different from centralized web2 institutionally owned digital assets. Every NFT points to an image/video hosted somewhere such as a regular website or IPFS. However, most NFTs point to a URL utilizing HTTP which is usually controlled by the minter. If the minter has control of the URL, he can decide the content in the NFT and change it to his liking, much like World of Warcraft nerfing Vitaly’s favorite character. However, the utilization of IPFS’s Content Identifiers would have prevented this as it grants ownership of the NFT content in an immutable way. IPFS identifies content by what’s in it rather than where it’s located while in comparison, HTTP identifies content by the URL it is located in.
The next question this leads us to is: Who is responsible for maintaining NFT data not stored in the blockchain and how should it be stored? NFT metadata storage should be chosen in a way that makes the minter obsolete in the permanence of the data.Well, that’s why we have decided to rely on NFT.Storage which stores many copies of uploaded data on the public IPFS network in two primary ways: in dedicated IPFS servers managed by NFT.Storage, and decentralized on Filecoin. Since Filecoin is a decentralized peer-to-peer data network verifiable ensures that data is preserved on the network. In doing so, we can ensure that our NFT content is persisted and available, we found it even more obvious on why to use this.
The need for a resilient system to store NFT data and mitigate the risk of data manipulation is paramount. Therefore, this integration came about due to the 2 billion gamers in the world who have played and collected digital items and need the same assurances that these digital items will be protected and exist, regardless of the existence of any single institution. Through this partnership, we provide data immutability for our NFT metadata, enhanced privacy of the data stored, and better overall security. All Dvision Network NFT metadata will be stored using NFTStorage such as LAND, PET, Avatar, ITEM, etc.
