What is “daiku”?
Dyke Haiku is a community of lesbians, writing small poems we call ‘daiku’ (short for dyke haiku). We write daiku to express and celebrate our lesbian lives 🌈
A ‘dyke’ is a common word for a lesbian. We are using it in a non-derogatory way, as a reclaimed identity.
A ‘haiku’ is a very short form of Japanese poetry, traditionally characterised by three line poems of 5, 7 and then 5 syllables.
In short, a ‘daiku’ is lesbian poetry in haiku form.
