Estonian state fee adjustments in 2020 will affect e-Residency applications

New state fee to pick-up e-Residency card at Estonian Embassies to be introduced in January 2020

Under the State Fee Act passed by the Estonian Parliament this week, a new state fee of 20 euros will be applied to issuing documents in Estonian Embassies, including e-Residency digital ID cards.

This means that while the application fee of 100 euros to apply for e-Residency will stay the same, everyone who applies from 6 January 2020 (included) and who chooses to collect their documents from an Estonian Embassy will pay an additional 20 euros at the time they apply. The same applies to renewing your e-Residency card.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, the new state fee is based on actual shipping costs of the e-Residency documents to Estonian Embassies around the world. This, together with the application fee of 100 euros, provides the Estonian Government with base funding for the continued success and longevity of the e-Residency programme.

The adjusted fee has to be paid in advance while applying for or renewing the card.

As before, when collecting the card from a pick-up point outside of Estonia other than an Estonian Embassy, their service fee (approximately 30 euros) is paid at the pick-up point.

E-Residency is a digital identity and status issued by the Republic of Estonia that provides access to the country’s open and transparent business environment. The programme provides e-residents with the freedom to run a global EU company online from anywhere in the world. So far, over 62,000 e-resident entrepreneurs from 165 countries have joined the e-Residency community and started over 10 000 companies.

If you have been thinking about applying for e-Residency and putting it off or if your e-Residency digital card is due to expire soon, don’t wait any longer!

Apply before the end of 2019 to take advantage of the current 100 euro state fee.

As part of our 5th birthday celebrations, e-Residency is also offering a chance for our community of 62,000 e-residents from around the world as well as new e-residents who apply before the end of the year to win a trip to Estonia. Receive a referral link from an existing e-resident, use that link to apply to become an e-resident, and you will both get an entry into the draw to win a trip to meet the e-Residency team and take part in the e-Residency Business Boot Camp in Estonia!
