In Hal and Me Carr provides a recount of his past and his relationship with technology. He think technology while having is positive qualities like efficiency, has changed his habits, and essentially the way his brain works. “the more it was fed the hungrier it became” says Carr in reference to his brain wanting to processes information in the ways that the internet provides it. This change in thinking might not be for the better. In The Rise of Centaurs, Thompson starts out with a suggestion of a computer and a human to work together so win a chess match, creating what he calls a centaur, because humans and computers “think in a fundamentally different way, yet they can benefit from each others strengths. Thompson sees this transformation of technology as more of a collaborative, positive experience as opposed to Carr’s negative, overpowering experience.
